I moved to the Louisville area in 1992. I had been looking for work and I wasn’t familiar with the area. I had gone to Robert Half and Accountemps who had sent me on an assignment. In trying to find the job. I got lost and didn’t show up for work. I had called Accountemps to let them know that I got lost. They were a bit mean to me and told me that I couldn’t use their services again. Unfortunately, I had forgotten the incident and gone back to them and they had taken personal information from me and told me that they would help.

My husband is turning 40 soon, and has just graduated Suma Cum Laude with his Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems. I recently applied for a position as a Software Manager for a company in Boston, MA. I am a resident of Rhode Island (1-1/2 hrs away). I found the position posted on a technical job board as a FULL TIME Management position. I emailed & mailed my resume to the company. I received a call to schedule an interview within 3 days. I was originally scheduled to meet with 3 people. It turned out being 7 people (from 2 pm to 5:15pm).

Paid Well But Stagnant!

I am a professional in the IT (information technology) field and have been for the last 20 years of my life. More specifically I am in the area of computer operations, and it looks like me to I can no further. I have expressed interest to my manager and to his managers that I would like to move on to other more challenging positions in the company. It looks like nothings happening; however, I see people in my area moving on to better positions and I don’t understand why. Some were even my subordinates with way less experience than I have, but they have moved onto better challenging positions. I feel like I’m in a slump and not being intellectually challenged. I’ve been self evaluating to see if it is me.

A year ago I got promoted to a supervisory position. During the first few weeks into the job, my lack of management know-how has caused me to offend a lot of employees and created for myself the image of a nitpicker. Since then, with better training and learning from the school of hard knocks, I’ve made drastic improvements to my management style. Armed with positive feedback from employees and my immediate managers, I repeatedly asked the director for more job responsibilities so that I can further improve myself and acquire more experience to move along in my career path. Each time his response was I needed to work harder.
