Legal to Lend and Borrow Money From Coworkers?

Question to Ask the Workplace Doctors about loaning/borrowing:

Is it legal to lend and borrow money from co-workers?

Signed, Wondering

Dear Wondering:

I don’t know exactly what the situation would be that you describe, but there are no laws about workplace borrowing or lending as long as the money belongs to the employees! There may be rules in your company or business about it, however. If someone is being strong-armed to loan money, that should be reported to bosses or Human Resources. The worst thing is when the money isn’t paid back and people are still working together. So, the answer is that while it isn’t illegal it’s not a good practice.Best wishes to you. Don’t loan money and don’t borrow it at work! 🙂
