Question to Ask the Workplace Doctors about time between wrong and write up:
How long does an employer have to write you up and you sign the paper after an incident for it to be valid?
There are no regulations about employer actions regarding write-ups, unless you are part of a union with a contract that has details about such things. The nature of the action and the follow-up requirements might have a lot to do with the timeline. For example, something happened on November 10th but the employer just found out about it. Or, something happened on November 10th and the employer needed to investigate it further. It may be there is no good reason for the delay except that the supervisor wasn’t sure what he or she wanted to do. On the other hand, it could be that an employer didn’t do anything about the November 10th event but when it happened again in February he or she took action for the November happening as well. or, there are a lot of plausible reasons, just as it is possible there was NO reason and your boss just procrastinated.
